Last Thursday, I was walking home from school when I saw a dog sitting alone on the pavement. He looked confused and frightened. He was a medium-sized brown dog with a red collar.

I stopped and knelt down. The dog came to me immediately and licked my hand. On his collar there was a small tag with a phone number.

I took out my phone and called the number. A woman answered after two rings. She sounded very worried. She said the dog was called Bruno and he had escaped from the garden.

She lived two streets away. I waited with Bruno until she arrived. He wagged his tail the whole time I petted him.

When the woman came, she hugged Bruno tightly. She was so relieved. She thanked me several times and called me a hero, which made me embarrassed.

On the way home, I felt very good. It was such a small thing, but it mattered to that woman and to Bruno.
