When Sarah decided to move to Edinburgh for her new job, she felt both excited and a little frightened. She had lived in the same town her whole life, and she did not know anyone in Scotland.
The first few weeks were difficult. Her new flat was comfortable, but it felt empty and quiet in the evenings. She did not know where the best shops were, which bus to take, or which restaurants were good. Everything was unfamiliar.
At work, her colleagues were friendly and helpful. They invited her to join them for lunch and explained how things worked in the office. One colleague, a woman called Fiona, offered to show her around the city at the weekend.
On Saturday, Fiona took her to the Royal Mile, the famous street that runs through the old part of the city. They visited the castle, walked through narrow medieval streets, and stopped for coffee in a traditional café. Sarah started to see why people loved Edinburgh so much.
Gradually, things became easier. She found a good supermarket, discovered a beautiful park near her flat, and joined a yoga class where she met more people. After two months, she began to feel at home.
Looking back now, Sarah is glad she made the move. It was not easy at first, but the experience made her stronger and more confident. She had proved to herself that she could start again somewhere new.
